Balinese sweets: between cultural capital, rice fields, tropical forest and active volcanoes

An 8-day stay to discover Balinese sweets, between Sanur in the South and Ubud, ideally located in the center of the island.
You will discover the local culture, habits and customs, local flavors, breathtaking panoramas, extraordinary rice terraces and active volcanoes.

DETAILED PROGRAM DAY BY DAY

DAY 1: Arrival in Denpasar – Selamat Datang!

Arrival at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar Bali.
Administrative formalities, collection of your luggage, welcome by your driver then drive to your hotel located in the seaside resort of Sanur.

DAY 2: Cliff temple and sunset

Free morning to enjoy the surroundings of your hotel, discover the region on your own and recover from the trip the day before.

Lunch at the hotel.

Meeting with your guide in the lobby and departure in the early afternoon towards the Bukit peninsula.

You will discover the famous temple of Uluwatu founded in the 11th century and rebuilt in the 16th century by the priest Nirartha.
The temple overlooks the ocean on the edge of a cliff which today dominates the famous surf spots, the view is spectacular.

You then return to your hotel.

DAY 3: Conquering the East: between salt workers and Bali Aga

Sanur – Kusamba – Tenganan – Tirtagangga – Kertagosa – Ubud (B,L,D)

Early morning departure to the city of Ubud, cultural and artistic center of Bali.

You will follow the east coast in order to make some interesting visits along the way.

– Kusamba Village
Kusamba is an idyllic little enclave by the sea, punctuated by fishing and salt harvesting. The beautiful black sand beaches are decorated with traditional fishing boats, with colorful and vibrant patterns.

Continuation to the animist village of Tenganan.

– Bali Aga Village of Tenganan
The Bali Aga, ancestors of the island’s aborigines, are communities that have preserved pre-Hindu traditions. They live in virtual self-sufficiency thanks to the land they own.
The village of Tenganan is quaint, welcoming.
The inhabitants are happy to explain their activities to you: the double ikat weaving technique in which they excel, the musical instruments they make, engravings on lontar leaves, egg painting and basketry.

Continue to the Royal Pools of Tirtagangga

– Visit of the royal swimming pools of Tirtagangga

The palace is adorned with a multitude of statues lining the emerging paths between the water lilies of the superb basins.
You can even walk on water, or almost, and take advantage of this superb environment by diving into the royal swimming pool.

Road to Ubud and discovery of the old courthouse, Kerta Gosa located in the heart of the former capital of the island, Semarapura.

Arrival in Ubud at the end of the afternoon, installation in your hotel and rest of the day free.

DAY 4: Between rice fields, volcanoes and crater lakes

Day devoted to the discovery of one of the most exotic regions of Bali.

In the morning around 8 am, departure towards the slopes of Mount Batukaru via small roads off the beaten track.

– Visit to the Luhur Batukaru temple
Lost in the middle of the jungle, the temple of Batukaru is rarely visited even if it is one of the six main sanctuaries of Bali. It was founded in the 11th century by Mpu Kuturan, an architect considered a holy man.
The Pura Batukaru is the guardian of the West region, and there transpires in this place a spirituality that invades us as the place is serene, well preserved and protected from the onslaught of traders.

Continuation to the superb rice fields of Jatiluwih.

– Jatiluwih rice fields
The rice fields of Jatiluwih extend over the slopes of Mount Batukaru.
The panoramic view is extraordinary and the rice fields stretch as far as the eye can see.
Jatiluwih is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the ancestral Subak irrigation system and related religious manifestations.

You will then continue to the Crater Lakes region and discover the famous Pura Luhur Ulun Danu temple located on Lake Bratan.

– Lake Bratan and Pura Ulun Danu
It is the second largest lake in Bali at an altitude of 1230m.
On the western shore of the lake, stands the Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, founded in 1634, dedicated to Dewi Danu Goddess of lakes and rivers.
After crossing a magnificent wooded park, the temple appears, often surrounded by a halo of mist. It seems weightless, resting on a small island in the lake. Not far away, you can discover a Buddhist stupa from the 1950s with four colored Buddhas. At the back, the village mosque stands on the hill.

Return to your hotel at the end of the afternoon.

DAY 5: Sacred springs and traditional village

Ubud – Tegalalang – Tampak Siring – Kintamani – Kehen – Ubud (B,L,D)

Departure after your breakfast with your guide for the North of the city of Ubud.

– Tegallalang rice fields
Tegallalang is one of the notable villages around Ubud.
The village offers a magnificent view of terraced rice fields, soaring in cascades, it is also considered an important artisanal center of Bali.

Continuation to the small town of Tampaksiring which has two major centers of interest: the sacred springs of Tirta Empul and the temple of Gunung Kawi.
This city is an essential place of pilgrimage for the Balinese.

– Visit of Gunung Kawi
Located on either side of the Pakrisan River, the Gunung Kawi Temple sits proudly on
Tampaksiring. At the end of a descent of 350 steps of a pebble staircase, we discover two mausoleums several meters high, carved in stone and set in niches. These are the tombs of King Udayana and his family, built in the 10th century.

– Visit of Tirta Empul
The sacred springs of Tirta Empul are enveloped in a mystical aura: they are highly coveted by the Balinese for their purifying and medicinal properties.

Continue to the Kintamani region located at the foot of Mount Batur.

–Kintamani Village
The village of Kintamani located at the foot of the Batur volcano, offers a breathtaking view of the lake and the still active Mount Batur. Its summit culminates at 1717m and is at the center of a double caldera where the 80m deep Lake Batur is housed.

Return to Ubud by taking the bucolic road of Bangli.

– Pura Kehen
Built on a hill on the way to Mount Batur, the temple enjoys a cool climate due to its altitude. Its terraces are filled with hibiscus and lantanas. It is one of Bali’s most revered temples.

Return to your hotel at the end of the day.

DAY 6: Balinese culture and principality of Tabanan

Early departure to the village of Marga.

When you arrive, you will meet the school children at the small village school.
You will continue with a visit to a Balinese house where the villagers will warmly welcome you with a welcome drink.
Make way for fun workshops to discover the essentials of Balinese culture: Balinese Sanskrit lessons, making offerings, making coconut oil and medicinal preparations.
Short walk to discover the surrounding plantations before joining the rice fields and meeting and discovering the work of the farmers.

Local lunch.
After your lunch, departure for the principality of Tabanan.

– Visit of the Taman Ayun temple
Constantly enriched and restored since its foundation in the 17th century, the Taman Ayun is the temple of the royal family of Mengwi.
Numerous ceremonial pavilions are scattered throughout the sacred precincts of the temple. Mengwi is one of the most beautiful Balinese temples.

– Visit of the temple of Tanah Lot
According to legend, Pura Tanah Lot was built in the 15th century by the Javanese priest Nirartha, who fell in awe of the beauty of the site.
The temple is built on a rock emerging from the water. Only Balinese believers can enter at low tide. The sunset here is spectacular and attracts lovers from all over the world.
The cave, near the temple would house poisonous snakes, guardians of the temple.
Before reaching the temple, you will have to cross a huge park of souvenir shops crowded with visitors, this tourist mass can sometimes reduce the charm of the place.
Return to your hotel.

DAY 7: Ubud on your own
