Ascent of Kilimanjaro
Kilimanjaro is an inactive volcano located in northeastern Tanzania. It has three volcanic cones: Kibo, Mawensi and Shira. The highest elevation is the Uhuru point at 5,895 meters above sea level on the Kibo volcano. The Kibo crater is 2.4 km wide. Uhuru is the highest peak in Africa and is part of the “Seven Summits”.
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa (5,895m) as well as the highest isolated mountain in the world. During its ascent, you will walk through a variety of landscapes; first you will pass through grassy terrain, after which you will find yourself in a tropical forest with monkeys and birds. Further up you will be on the “roof of Africa”, where you will find glaciers, snow and ice. The view from above, over the African landscape, is simply magnificent. In fact, the moment you set foot on top of Kilimanjaro will probably be the highlight of your trip and will remain forever etched in your memories. This is why climbing Kilimanjaro is so popular.
