Departure from Montreal to Malaga

Arrival in Malaga, welcome and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day free.

Visiting the Costa del Sol will be an opportunity to take a real “road trip” among some of the prettiest cities in southern Spain. Marbella and Malaga with its Moorish fortifications are waiting for you. Some of the classic activities in this area are hiking, diving and afternoons at the beach. We also recommend that you visit the town of Nerja and its wineries, where you will appreciate the presence of old paintings dating back to the Bronze Age.

For an unusual outing, take a half day to discover the Strait of Gibraltar, a busy migratory route for large marine mammals, some of which live in the area while some are just passing through. With a little luck you can witness the presence of sperm whales, orcas and dolphins.
You can also allocate some time to visit the local vineyards, such as Remsamem, Nilva or Bentomiz, where you will learn about local wine production and taste the finished products!

The Costa del Sol is also a veritable paradise for golf enthusiasts with 70 courses, some designed by world renowned architects such as Robert Trent Jones.

In terms of food, you will surely find “shoes that fit” perfectly! Do not miss trying Espeto, sardines on wooden skewers, grilled over high heat on or near the beach. Served with drizzled lemon juice and a glass of white wine, it is a delicious and healthy local snack. The fish is served whole, but it is enough to chew the “meat” off the main backbone, leaving the head and the tip of the tail behind.

Overnight in Costa del Sol

Pick up your rental car and head to the Algarve.Situated in the extreme southern part of Portugal, the region of Algarve is famous for its climate and lovely beaches. The best-known city in this area? Faro. You can also take advantage of driving along the coast to visit Lagos and Portimao.

This region is highly regarded for its hiking routes such as the Rota Vicentina or the Via Algarviana. There are also spots for amateur divers such as Albufeira, open to tourists.

After hiking and diving, take advantage of the area to relax in the sun. For those that love the night life, explore the Vilamoura Marina and sample one of its many restaurants. The days here pass quickly so make sure you don’t miss anything!

Foodies, take advantage of the proximity to the sea to taste the Bulhao Pato (clams in sauce), barbecued sardines and fresh fish and seafood. Also try the Lulas (braised squid), the Polvo (boiled octopus) and the Filetes de Pescada (hake fried in an egg batter).

Main activities in Algarve: Sun, beach, diving, water sports, hiking, visiting Faro, exploring grottos, enjoying the local cuisine.

Meals: Breakfasts
Overnight in the Algarve

Depart to Seville, a city that you will love. The Andalusian capital enjoys a rich history. With Greek, Phoenician, Carthaginian and Roman influences, it is characterized by its pleasant lifestyle, its famous “siesta” and its culinary and cultural heritage, specific to the region.

Begin your stay in Seville by discovering the Royal Alcazar, a former royal palace combining Moorish, Gothic and Renaissance structural elements, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Continue on to the famous Cathedral of Seville where you will discover sumptuous works of art as well as the tomb of Christopher Columbus.

Among other must-sees on this first day in Seville is a visit of La Giralda, an incredible minaret with 24 bell towers. On the way back down towards the city center, head to the Santa Cruz district, a labyrinth of narrow streets in which yellow, white, red and blue mingle colorfully. If you have some time left, visit the impressive Baroque Palace of San Telmo, built in 1682. It was formerly a university for navigators and is now the seat of the presidency of the Andalusian Autonomous Government.

Main attractions in Sevilla: Royal Alcazar, La Giralda

Meal: Breakfast
Overnight in Seville

Start your second day in Seville by walking through the Maria Luisa Park which will take you straight to Plaza Espana. This is a huge, oval space surrounded by a moat and topped with a long pavilion that features an elaborate design full of imaginative tilework. The Plaza Espana has served as a backdrop for several Hollywood productions including Lawrence of Arabia and Star Wars: Attack of the Clones.

In the afternoon, head to the Metropol Parasol, an interesting and amusing building with an unusual shape which claims to be the largest wooden structure in the world. You can buy a ticket for 3 Euros and walk along the summit to admire the view from its panoramic terraces. Conclude your day with a visit to the Real Maestranza, the Royal Bullring, the site of one of the best-known bullfighting festivals in the world. Bullfighting is subject of much debate, but this is a good place to learn about Andalusian history and tradition.

Regarding local places to eat, Casa Morales is an institution where tapas are a must. Melting carillada (braised pork cheek), albondigas (meatballs) and croquetas (fried croquettes stuffed with ham and cheese) are recommended. El Rinconcillo, where you can taste typical Sevillian tapas such as espinacas con garbanzos (spinach with chickpeas) is a tavern that is worth trying. Bodeguita Romero and Bodega Santa Cruz are also highly recommended, especially for the quality of their dishes but also their wines, which often come from Jerez, a nearby town.

Main attractions in Seville: Maria Luisa Park, Plaza Espana, Metropol Parasol.

Meal: Breakfast
Overnight in Seville

Drive to Malaga. Founded in the Phoenician period, in 800 BC, Malaga later passed under Roman influence, as can be seen from the presence of an ancient theatre. A commercial city whose port made its reputation, Malaga is today a tourist hotspot in Andalusia with many sites to discover.
It would be unthinkable to miss exploring the sumptuous cathedral, but what may surprise you the most is the Alcazaba, a complex of Moorish and Roman foundations where you will find the ancient theatre. Then take time to climb up Mount Gibralfaro from where you have a splendid view of the city.
Back down in the city center, pass through Muelle Uno, a chic square in the city, facing the sea. There are also several museums to explore: the Picasso Museum, the Malaga Contemporary Arts Centre, and the Malaga Museum.

From a culinary point of view, you will end your stay in Spain in style! El Tintero is an establishment not to be missed if you love fresh fish and seafood. El Pimpi is a tapas restaurant that mixes excellent wines with complete fresh meals (we recommend the anchovies with vinegar). For a more rustic experience, choose La Alacena de Francis.

Cu Chi tunnel system was the nerve center to some of the war’s strategic operations, including the famous 1968 Tet Offensive to Saigon City. American B52 sky fortress dropped hundreds of missiles, bombs digging huge evidential craters all around.
Soldiers used these underground routes to house troops, transport communications and supplies, lay booby traps and mount surprise attacks, after which they could disappear underground to safety. The tunnels were used as a supply station and hospitals for thousands of guerilla fighters. You will have the chance to try some of the cassava which was the main course of the Viet Cong soldiers over ten years.

Breakfast. Departure 48 km north of Amman for the visit of Jerash, the most beautiful and best preserved of all the Roman cities. Considered one of the best-preserved Roman provincial towns in the world, Jerash is the country’s second-largest tourist site after Petra. This city was part of the decapolis, a large part of which still exists today. Excavations have uncovered two theaters, an elliptical forum, several temples and churches, a market and thermal baths, the Cardo Maximus, a 600-meter alley lined with columns. Dinner at a local restaurant in Jerash. Road to Ajlun located in the north of the country for the visit of the castle of Ajlun (Qal’at Ar-Rabad). Ajlun Castle is a perfect example of the medieval genius of Arab and military architecture. The castle was built by General Saladin in 1184 AD to control the steel mines of Ajlun and curb the progress of the Crusaders. Dinner and overnight at the Amman hotel. B/D/D

Breakfast. Depart for the Dead Sea. Accommodation for two nights including 2 meals per day. B/D

Breakfast. At the Dead Sea. B/D

Breakfast. Depart south to Madaba, home of the most famous Byzantine mosaics, and visit the Greek Orthodox Church where the famous 6th century map of the Holy Land is located. The map of Madaba (or map of Palestine) was unearthed in 1898 during the construction of the Church of Saint George, of the Greek-Orthodox rite. Continue to Mt. Nébo with its spectacular view of the Holy Land. Nébo, which culminates at 840 m altitude, rises 10 km northwest of Madaba. It has become a place of universal pilgrimage since the beginning of the Christian era. Drive via Wadi Mujib and the Kings Route to visit the Crusader Castle of Kerak dating from the 12th century. Dinner at a local restaurant in Kerak. Continue to Petra. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Petra. B/D/D

Breakfast. Petra – stone in Greek or sala in Nabataean – takes its name from the pink and soft sandstone which is used as material for the hundreds of tombs and temples dug into the rock by the Nabataeans. People of Arab origin, they thus founded one of the most beautiful civilizations which dominated all of Transjordan in the 7th century BC. Petra, at the crossroads of the roads linking Arabia, Egypt, Syria and Palestine, became a very important transit point. Deserted at the end of the Byzantine era, the lost city was only found in 1812 by the Swiss traveler Burckhardt.

It would theoretically take a week to visit the whole site. One day will however be enough to appreciate all the beauty of the main monuments and their magnificent facades concentrated in the central Siq and the surrounding mountains. You will undoubtedly be won over very quickly by the majesty of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The variations of light, the erosion combined with the natural components of the rock generate splendid combinations of colors which contribute to give all its singularity to Petra. Dinner on site. Dinner and overnight in Petra. B/D/D

Breakfast buffet. Departure for Wadi Rum, “the valley of the moon” a unique place where you will live a unique experience. You will explore this splendid desert aboard Bedouin Pickups (6 people per jeep) driven by the Bedouins of the site for a 2-hour excursion. You will discover the clues of the past sculpted on the mountains and the rocks, testimonies of the civilizations which succeeded one another in this part of Jordan. Dinner at Wadi Rum Resthouse.

The journey will be divided into two parts, first by road and then by boat.

One of the wonders of Costa Rica which is not known for its monuments nor for its historical sites but for its verdant parks and for experiencing boating through its many rivers and small canals. This area is a true window open to the Caribbean Sea. You will also reach your hotel by boat.

In Costa Rica, locals eat fish dishes such as ceviche de pargo or dorado, or octopus or tilapia, all of which are not overly spicy. You will also find dishes with Creole and Afro-Caribbean influence such as rondon (a spicy okra from the sea), bean rice (red beans, coconut milk and curry), and pati, the Caribbean version of empanadas, with either sweet or salty stuffings, ideal for eating on the go, on the bus or on a picnic.

After breakfast, transfer to San Jose where you will pick up your car rental and drive to Manuel Antonio.

Located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, Manuel Antonio National Park is a true tropical paradise.

Getting there takes only a 3-hours drive. You will have the opportunity to pass by the central mountain range as well as the Tarcoles Bridge, known as the “Crocodile Bridge”. You will feel privileged to be in this sumptuous part of the country, one of the few places in the world where you can admire crocodiles basking in the sun. The crocodiles here enjoy the waters of the Rio Grande de Tarcoles and benefit from the natural light and a variety of spaces to swim. It is estimated that a total of 200 crocodiles live here in total freedom and you might see individuals ranging from about one to more than seven meters long.

Then continue the drive towards Punta Leone, an important natural reserve and one of the largest on the Pacific coast. Punta Leone is actually one of the remaining forests that lie in the transitional zone between the tropical rainforests of the southwest and the dry forests of the northwest. This is also an opportunity for you to finally enjoy some of the beautiful beaches of Costa Rica. Our recommendation? Playa Blanca and Manta.

You may have a chance to spot howler monkeys as well as Agoutis and, if you are lucky, a Poison Dart Frog.

For others, the day can revolve around relaxation. Manuel Antonio is a small town with many beaches. We recommend Playa Espadilla, Playa Playitas and especially Playa Biesanz where you will appreciate the crystal-clear temperate waters.

Take advantage of the moment to continue your tasting tour to enjoy some of the typical specialties of Costa Rica such as fish with coconut milk, Costa Rican beef in tomato sauce (carne mechada), or chifrijo, one of the most famous dishes!
