Departure from Montreal to Lisbon.

Arrive in Lisbon and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to get acquainted with the capital city of Portugal.

Overnight in Lisbon 

Half day guided tour starting with the Rossio, the central square of Lisbon, followed by Alfama, (the old town), a typical Lisbon district full of narrow streets leading up to the Sao Jorge cathedral. Continuing along the majestic Tagus River will bring you to the neighborhood of Belem to visit the impressive Jeronimos Monastery, a masterpiece of Manuelinian style architecture. Next you will visit the National Coach Museum which houses the largest collection in the world. Finally you will admire the two most emblematic sites of Lisbon, The Tower of Belem with its pride of place next to the Tagus River, and the Discoveries Monument, built to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the death of Henry the Navigator.

Overnight in Lisbon 

Half day excursion of the sun-soaked coast and its beaches, starting with Estoril, known for its golf and casino, and arriving in Cascais, an ancient fishing village which is now a seaside resort 30 minutes from Lisbon. You will pass through Guincho with its beaches and sand dunes to arrive in Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point in Europe, boasting a magnificent view of the sea and its cliffs (visit not available between November 1 and the end of February) before heading to Sintra, a Unesco World Heritage site and one of the most beautiful old towns of Portugal. You will visit the 14th century Pena Palace which houses one of the most remarkable collections of Mudejar tiles in the world.

Overnight in Lisbon

A day full excursion starting with the charming medieval city of Obidos with its white houses covered in colorful honeysuckle. Next you will visit the church of Alcobaca, famous for the purity of its architecture, where you will find the tombs of Dom Pedro and Ines de Castro. On to the little town of Nazare named after a 4th century monk who brought the statue of the Virgin here from Nazareth. After this, arrive in the town of Batalha with its superb Gothic monastery dating from the 14th century and displaying the elegant blend of gothic and manuelian styles, resplendent of the era. The day ends with Fatima, home to the Sanctuary of Fatima, a Catholic pilgrimage site where the miraculous appearance of the Virgin Mary took place in 1917.

Half day tour of Porto starting in the charming old city which captivates visitors with its colored houses. The Bairro da Sé, a medieval quarter, is a must see and a wine tasting in one of the many Porto cellars situated in Vila Nova de Gaia on the riverside facing the city.

Another day full of excursions in the region of Minho, the greenest part of the country, full of mountains, valleys and rivers. Start in medieval Guimares, another Unesco World Heritage site and birth place of Portugal. You will never forget its walls full of emblems and coats of arms, its many shaded arcades and the 10th century Guimares Castle on the hilltop. Later visit the impressive Sanctuary of Bom Jesus, built at the top of a monumental baroque stairway. Finally arrive at the city of Braga, known for its religious heritage which enhances its magnificent architecture exemplified by its cathedral.

Overnight in Porto 

Departure toward Aveiro, nicknamed the “Venice” of Portugal for its many canals and boats. You will have a chance to walk on the beach of Costa Nova where you can admire the multi-colored houses overlooking the sea. Continue to Coimbra, Portugal’s medieval former capital and home to the most famous university in the country. Perched on a hill, the University of Coimbra was the former 16th century palace of King John the third, an avid patron of the arts. Free time to explore this charming city and to visit the Convent of Santa Clara (optional).
